Anywho… I wanna talk about RUBBERZ…
Everyone knows the song! If you’re on social media at all, you’ve heard the song! If you’ve been moving around the streets of LA or anywhere else in SoCal at all in the last couple of weeks, you’ve heard the song! This song is not like the song that had the streets of LA in chokehold a few years ago. There’s no disses in it. There’s no beef associated with it. But it’s almost like you can’t have a hit song in LA without it… Two letters… A I
RUBBERZ is a catchy synth lead bop by Fenix Flexin and Purps On The Beat, that makes you feel like you’ve teleported into Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as soon as you hear the first 10 seconds of it lol. It’s an 80’s synth lead track that has you asking LA natives what the city was REALLY like in the 80’s lol. The UK inflections and subtle delivery are easily reminiscent of your favorite band from across the pond. Unfortunately for the artists involved with the creation of the song, their creativity came with a heavy price. Allegations of the song being made with AI grew louder as the song got bigger… With much of it coming from the artists own hometown.
If I can be completely honest… Most of the folks claiming that the song is AI, don’t even know how AI works! Can AI be used for ill intentions? YES! Is there content farming involved with AI? YES! But mf you can say the same things about the internet lowkey… I’m not saying that there’s no use of AI in the song cause I don’t know and I wasn’t in the studio session. All I’m saying is, it’s hate to just ASSUME it’s AI. Furthermore, the use of AI to enhance a song and take it over the top shouldn’t be a crime! Look fam, if I write a song, make a beat, record the vocals and then decide, “lemme see how this sounds with a different voice”, is that not still MY song???
I tell people all the time, if an artist can’t make a better song than a computer that is the artist’s problem and not the computer’s! What if I told you that most might be looking at AI the wrong way… What if I told you that AI was eliminating the mediocre and underwhelming music out there? Getting rid of the half ass artists, producers, and writers in one fell swoop, leaving room only for the absolute best of the creative best… Would you sign up for hearing only music from the best of the best in the craft from here on out? What if I told you that some of the hate attached to AI is contrived to deter the best of the best songwriters and producers from cutting out any formerly needed entities and going direct to consumer?
